Porcelain is a substance made of kaolin, feldspar and silicate while ceramic consists of a compound of clay; that is bisilicate and organic substances.
They are so greatly different from each other that they can be used for various purposes.
Infact if you want a rustic but at the same time, warm decoration with contours completely fused with transparent enamel, choose a ceramic object decorated with naturalistic images.
Ceramic has shades that are on the ivory side and it has a tenuous paste that allows the colour to be absorbed better. It is more fragile when it is put in the oven; for this reason it must be baked very slowly and at a maximum temperature of 720°centigrades.
But if you want something more delicate choose porcelain. It is a shiny, white, hard and compact substance. It is finer than ceramic, it is more transparent and more refined as regards shapes.
It can be baked rapidly and at high temperature (750°- 800°centigrades).
A big and old company of limoges porcelain adds a leaflet to every single piece of its items where it can be read: “Porcelain is a handicraft product that derives from raw material baked through complicated production-cycles where man is always present. It is a precious substance that comes from the three elements of life: Earth, Water and Fire.
For these reasons small ash dots or little imperfections remain on the surface.
